چکیده

Dual use crops are becoming popular as resources like land and water become scarcer. Annual peanuts an important food crop grown worldwide that can also be used forage or hay. Replicated trials evaluated the late season (≥15 weeks after planting) accumulations nutritive values (acid detergent fiber, carbon content, crude protein, invitro true digestibility, neutral nitrogen relative feed value) of four market types near Clovis, NM El Reno, OK in 2019 2020. Statistical analyses (p ≤ .05) showed all traits were affected by interaction between type growing environment. Overall, for ranged from 2.7 to 6.5 Mg ha−1 with 107–155. The location average across sites was 4.45 value 132. Virginia produced large amounts biomass. However, Valencia generated greatest values. This study indicates harvesting late-season biomass hay may option allows producers generate more income limited resources. both environmental factors, such rainfall/irrigation, play roles production peanut forage.

FORAGE & GRAZING LANDS Forage Production and Nutritive Value of Selected Pigeonpea Ecotypes in the Southern Great Plains

for use in sustainable forage-livestock production systems in the southern Great Plain region. Stocker cattle production in portions of southern Great Plains Pigeonpea is a summer legume crop grown for grain depends on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and warm-season perennial grasses. Nutrient supply is limited in both quantity and quality from in the tropics and subtropics. The crop ranks sixth i...

Capabilities of Four Novel Warm-Season Legumes in the Southern Great Plains: Biomass and Forage Quality

Grain (pulse) legumes could provide high nitrogen (N), late summer forage for stocker cattle in the southern Great Plains (SGP). This study evaluated the forage yield and nutritive value of tropical annual legumes that were relatively uncommon in the SGP, at a site (35°40' N, 98°00' W) in central Oklahoma. Included were cultivars of pigeon pea ([Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.], cv. GA-2), guar ([Cy...

A comparison of native tallgrass prairie and plains bluestem forage systems for cow-calf production in the southern great plains.

The objective of this study was to compare an introduced warm-season perennial grass (plains bluestem, Bothriochloa ischaemum) to native tallgrass prairie for cow-calf production. Three systems were used, two based on tallgrass prairie with two different forms of protein supplementation and one based on plains bluestem as the primary forage. The systems were as follows: 1) native tallgrass prai...
